Cie Greffe / Cindy Van Acker (CH) «Speechless Voices»

  • Kaserne Basel 1B Klybeckstrasse Basel, BS, 4057 Switzerland (map)

The choreographer, originally from Belgium, has been living in Switzerland for over 25 years and addresses issues pertaining to the relationship between body, mind, space and sound with immense stylistic assurance and almost scientific meticulousness. Cindy Van Acker often explores her themes with the help of minimalistically applied movements. Based on a holistic approach, she conceives productions that are visually powerful, precisely composed and at the same time highly sensitive. In «Speechless Voices», Cindy contrasts the complex musical compositions by Mika Vainio with ritualistic dance tableaus. Using repetitive movements, the dancers from her company set a pulsating underlying rhythm. Gradually, a work emerges that demands the utmost concentration from everyone on stage. They face the possibility of being repelled at any time, then having to immediately pull themselves together and begin all over again. The production will premiere at the Migros Culture Percentage Dance Festival Steps as part of a cooperation between Steps and the Expédition Suisse network of event organisers. The network was founded by the theatres Théâtre Vidy Lausanne, Gessnerallee Zürich, Theater Chur, Dampfzentrale Bern and Kaserne Basel to support outstanding Swiss artists in the development of exceptional projects.

There will be an audience discussion after the show on Fri 24th.
